Project 2 - Contextual Fit
Analysis & Design of Adding on
This is a project that focuses on the fit of three dimensional massing and ordering systems as the design generator in the context of existing forms and three dimensional systems. Extruded existing systems is a design starting point.

Main Objective:
The main objective is to create an addition to the “Smith House” designed by architect Richard Meier in 1965. Our addition to the house must incorporate new systems, patterns, and conceptual analogies that meet the owners’ needs, without interrupting the architectural integrity of the original design.
Narrative:
The Sorto family has recently purchased the Smith house in Connecticut on the shore of the Long Island Sound. The owner, Mr. Sorto, is a surrealist painter, and his two kids would like to follow his steps into the arts. As much as he likes to paint, Mr. Sorto likes to exercise too to stay fit and healthy. He and his family request a new addition to the existing house but for it to have its own unique presence while also respecting the integrity of the original house design. Mr. Sorto requests to add a painting room where he and his kids can express their creativity, a viewing room where he can put up his paintings for the public eye and an exercise room so he and his family can stay fit.
